Baby Chick PREORDER (Reservation)

With the recent egg shortage we, at Volcanic Homestead, wanted to become a more self-sustaining homestead, therefore we are adding baby FEMALE HEN chicks to our products (coming soon--fresh eggs!).  We have two hatch months--July and October!  These will be fully vaccinated, baby chicks that will be ready for pickup at less than a week old!

You will not be charged for your purchase until we have called you to confirm your order—this is your opportunity to “reserve” them for purchase.  We recommend you purchasing at least 3 chicks as it helps them to stay warm while they are young (along with a heat lamp of course) and because they are such social creatures--they need friends!

Available in July: 

Green Queen Easter Egger - they have a friendly disposition and can vary in color (first four pictures).  They can lay about **260 assorted green colored eggs per year.

Bielefelder - (picture 5) they are extremely friendly chickens—we have several currently free-ranging on our homestead and they love to follow us around.  They can lay about **185 large brown eggs per year

Available in October: 

Ameraucana - (picture me 6 & 7) known for their consistent large blue egg production.  The hens themselves can vary in color from brown to white and can lay about **200 eggs per year.

Rhode Island Red - (last picture) known for their egg production and large brown eggs.  They can lay about **238 eggs per year!

 
Considerations before reserving/purchasing chicks:

• Have a safe, appropriate sized enclosure to keep them warm in for their first few weeks of life.
• Have a warming lamp ready and installed over one end of their enclosure.
• Have feed and water containers and supply on hand before pickup. 
• Chickens make great pets but children should be supervised when around young chicks.
• Plan to take your chicks straight home after picking them up.

Note:  Placing a reservation/pre-order for chicks is not a guarantee for fulfillment of the requested number and type of chicks. Due to the nature of working with live animals, it is possible that we may be unable to fulfill some requests. Requests will be filled in the order of received reservations. Rest assured that you will not be billed for your order until your chicks are confirmed as available prior to pick up.
